País básicamente montañoso con una pequeñísima salida al mar. La triste huella de la guerra de los Balcanes es aún visible.

Bosnia-Herzegovina
Bosnia-Herzegovina is a country of vast forests, valleys and mountains reaching 4,265 meters. It also has a small zone in the Adriatic Sea with only 20 km of coastline.

After the proclamation of independence in 1992 started the war in Bosnia in an attempt by the ultra nationalist Serbs to create a Greater Serbia. Its consequence was enormous: 250,000 dead and more than 2.5 million refugees. The war ended and now the country is pacified, although the footprint of the conflict still remain for a long time.

Sarajevo, the capital, is situated 700 meters high and surrounded by five mountains, some reaching 2000 meters. Although during the war the city was virtually destroyed, now it has been rebuilt with modern buildings.

Mostar is the most visited city and it is considered unofficially the capital of Herzegovina. The city is divided into two parts by the river Neretva, joined by a bridge of the XVIth century. The bridge was considered a symbol of unity between Catholics and Muslims on both sides, but the war destroyed the bridge and the peaceful coexistence of cultures that characterized the region. Aptly UNESCO took over its reconstruction after the war (2004). In the souvenir shops of Mostar many war-related objects, including macabre gas masks, can be purchased.

In the Adriatic, Neum is the only coastal town with some interesting beaches.
